There are three groups of people I’d like to address.
Those who don’t care if they are going to hell.
Those who do care about going to hell but may not be aware they are going to hell.
And those who believe they are safe and not going to hell at all.
I’ll address the last group first.
So, to those who believe they are safe from hells fire, what makes you so sure?
Have you never read in 1 Cor. 10:12 “Therefore let anyone who think he stands take heed lest he fall.”
What’s going to save you from the fires of hell?
You say you believe in God?
James 2:19 says, “great! Even the demons believe and tremble.”
You call yourself a Christian?
Are you involved in a sexual relationship outside of marriage?
Are you given to gossip?
Are you a liar?
Are you an angry person or one who is a bigot?
I have an opinion on race. I believe it’s the greatest deception the devil has ever pulled on so called believers. Jesus said to love Him more than anything or anyone (Luke 10:27). And some of you love your blackness or whiteness more than Him. You love your heritage more than you love Jesus. You over look loving your black or white neighbor and rather sit and slander them. That makes you more of a son or daughter of the devil than it does a child of God.
So why are you so sure you’re not gonna burn for all eternity in hell?
Isaiah 64:6 “All of us have become as one who is unclean and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags”
And filthy rags in that context is like a used female hygiene product.
Let me ask you a question.
What do you have to do to go to hell?
Nothing. Absolutely nothing. In fact doing nothing but living your life the way YOU want to live will get you a first class ticket to hell fire.
Sorry to skip ahead, but I want to address those who actually do care about spending eternity in hell but don’t know what to do.
By now your wondering, ‘wow, if those who call themselves Christians aren’t getting in will I?’
First off I never said Christians were not getting into heaven or that we were going to hell. This is a thinking exercise.
But what about you? Why do you care?
You know there’s only One person who has died and then raised back to life for our salvation. But let’s step back before we reach glory.
As I said earlier, you can just live your life and end up in hell. In fact it’s not what you do or don’t do that gets you into heaven or hell but rather what you choose to accept or deny.
No matter if you never drink, or swear, and no matter all of your pious religious acts or good deeds, none of them can save you from eternal damnation.
See, our ticket to hell was stamped the moment we were born.
I’m not saying if a baby dies they go to hell. I don’t believe that, because I believe in a just and righteous God.
But if you’re old enough to drive and know the difference between right and wrong, if you’ve made it this far in life then you have a one way ticket to hell with your name on it, whether you like it or not.
It’s in our DNA.
We were created in God’s image (Genesis 1:27) meaning man and woman were meant to be eternal beings and we each have an eternal spirit.
God is Spirit (John 4:24) We were never supposed to die. However, when Adam and Eve disobeyed God that eternal chromosome became corrupt and died.
Romans 5:12, “Therefore just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned”
Now one day each of us will die physically and if our spirits are not reborn we will also die spiritually.
So what must we do to be saved?
Jesus, the Son of God taught, repent, turn from your life filled with selfishness and sin turn to Him. (Matt. 4:17)
Jesus paid the price for our sin debt on the cross because it’s written (Heb. 9:22) without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sin.
We are saved by grace, through faith. (Eph. 2:8-9)
In return we MUST deny ourselves, pick up our cross and follow Him daily. (Luke 9:23)
Meaning, we are no longer to live a life dedicated to pleasing ourselves, but rather a life in servitude and love of and for Him and others.
Romans 10:9-10. Confess with your mouth and believe in your heart that Jesus died, was buried and rose from the dead.
I said earlier it’s what you choose to accept or deny that gets you into heaven or hell.
We can either choose to receive God’s gift of eternal life and new spiritual birth through the virgin birth, sinless life, crucified, dead and then resurrected body of the Only Son of God, Jesus the Messiah. Or not.
Now some may be saying, “hey I believe in Jesus! Did you say I was going to hell?”
No I didn’t. But what I would say to those who think they are standing firm. If you say you are following Jesus but are in a sexual relationship outside of marriage, you are disillusioned and need to stop sinning and return to God.
If you call yourself a Christian and are given to looking at porn, or getting drunk, or you watch sports more than you read the Bible or pray you may need to take a spiritual evaluation.
In revelations Jesus is standing at the door and knocking at the heart of a lukewarm church. Do you think He’s going to accept anyone into His presence who has willingly ignored Him?
We are saved by grace through faith but this does not give us a free get out of hell card if we choose to not spend any time with our Lord and Savior daily.
This doesn’t mean when we pray or read our bible we get brownie points with God. We read our bibles and pray so we can become more like our Lord and so we can become transformed and know how to please Him.
The greatest gift we have is His word and His Holy Spirit. The best use of our time is spent in prayer and fellowship with our Lord Jesus.
Ok, now let me get to the one group who probably thought I forgot about them. Those who are going to hell, but don’t even care.
Is that where you truly want to spend eternity? Do you really want to burn forever?
Paraphrasing here, John 3:16 says, God loves you so much that He sent His only Son, Jesus, to die the most gruesome death known to mankind. If you will choose to surrender your life to Him, and receive His gift of salvation, you don’t have to burn. But you can be with Him in paradise.
Please don’t choose hell over God’s gift.
God has a plan for each and every life. His plan is for you to know Him and live a victorious life over sin. He wants to spread His love through you to others and He wants you involved in your community assisting those who are in need.
He will direct you and bless you in the endeavors He leads you into.
In closing, a life following Jesus is not easy. It’s not glamorous. It’s not a road many find. It’s not a path many choose. And that’s why I choose to challenge my brothers and sisters in the Lord. I want you to be there with me.
Let’s not take our salvation for granted and live lives that are selfish, but rather let’s live lives of sacrifice and desiring to be with our Lord every minute of the day.
I love you all.
